Membership


Membership Requirements

A person being considered for a formal appointment to the Houston Biomaterials Research Center must have an appropriate, advanced degree, a permanent academic or research appointment with a qualifying institution in or affiliated with the Texas Medical Center, and must meet the stated qualifications.

An applicant must file an application form and other information requested.

Membership Process

Appointments are made by the Director upon approval of the Center's Executive Committee and the Dean.

The Director may consult with the UT Dental Branch APT Committee before the appointment is made.

Membership Titles

Senior Scientist-a person with qualifications in biomaterials research that might be evidenced by 15 years research experience, 60 or more scientific publications and a record of continuous research funding as principal investigator

Scientist-a person with qualifications in biomaterials research that might be evidenced by at least 5 years research experience, 20 or more scientific publications and research funding as principal investigator

Investigator-a person with demonstrated interests in biomaterials research that might be evidenced by less than 5 years research experience, several scientific publications and/or participation as co-investigator in funded research

Visiting Status-the term "visiting" will be applied to a title for a person who possesses a temporary academic or research appointment with a qualifying institution in or affiliated with the Texas Medical Center.

Adjunct Status-the term "adjunct" will be applied to a title for a person who interacts with and supports the Center but does not qualify for another status.

Predoctoral or Postdoctoral Fellow-a person participating in the Center as a student in an academic program of a qualifying institution in or affiliated with the Texas Medical Center

Advisory Board-a person providing voluntary service to the Center as a consultant

Term of Appointment

All appointments are made for an academic year and may be renewed based on merit if mutually agreeable to the Director and appointee.
