Dental Branch hosts ASDA conference

More than 300 dental students from across the country were hosted by the UT Dental Branch during the four-day American Student Dental Association annual conference, Aug. 31- Sept. 2.

The Dental Branch hosted a picnic at Grant Faye Park on the last day of the conference and then led the group on a tour of the Dental Branch. Students, Alice Luan and Darryl Baucum, served as the ASDA representatives for the Dental Branch.

The annual conference served as the platform for the school to receive two awards.

The Dental Branch won honorable mention in the Crest Healthy Smiles 2010 Program for the development of the “Miles of Smiles Day” at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston. In addition, Alice Luan, a fourth-year dental student, who served as an ASDA representative, was named the “Delegate of the Year” for the local region.

Darryl Baucum, a second-year dental student, sent a note of thanks to the ASDA officers and students involved. He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the faculty and administration:

"The willing involvement of the Dental Branch faculty and administration to participate in such an important event associated with dental student issues is more than any student organization could ask for. Being able to openly communicate and participate with the faculty, not only during events like this, but throughout our dental education is what makes the Dental Branch such a unique and special place to spend our time learning the skills for our future career."
