Former Surgeon General to speak at Dental Branch

M. Joycelyn Elders, M.D., former Surgeon General of the United States, will deliver the keynote address during the American Medical Student Association’s Achieving Diversity in Dentistry and Medicine 2005 Primary Care Leadership Training Program at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, at the Dental Branch, Room 207. Health science center faculty, staff, students, residents and fellows are encouraged to attend the presentation and participate in the question and answer session.

Other conference presentations are:

Together, the Dental Branch and Medical School are hosting this year’s training program Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29. The theme of the conference for medical and dental students is "Serving the Underserved by Working with Community Health Centers.”

The conference provides leadership training for 40 medical and dental students who have been nominated by their schools. The University of Texas Health Science Center student hosts are Alice Luan, a fourth-year dental student and Rowena Reyes, a fourth-year medical student.

Centennial Round-Up Celebration

All alumni of the UT Dental Branch are invited to take part in the Centennial Round-Up Celebration, hosted by the UTDB Alumni Association Friday, Aug. 12-Saturday, Aug. 13.

Continuing education courses will take place 9 a.m.-noon on Friday at the Wildcat Golf Course, 1200 Almeda, featuring Dental Branch faculty members Dean Catherine M. Flaitz, D.D.S., M.S.; Joe C. Ontiveros, D.D.S.; Art Jeske, D.M.D., Ph.D., and adjunct faculty member John Hicks, D.D.S., Ph.D. M.D.

An open wide golf tournament will follow at 1 p.m.

Saturday will include morning tours of the Dental Branch, followed by The Centennial Tribute Dinner at 7 p.m. at The Houstonian Hotel, 111 North Post Oak Lane. For additional information contact: the UTDB Alumni Association at (713) 840-1328 or at utdbaa@houston.rr.com.


ERC party: Location/time change

Join your co-workers at the Employee Relations Committee’s end of the year celebration: Different time and different place, but exciting just the same!

Celebrate the completion of a successful school year 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at the Dental Branch. Games, prizes and an interactive theme are planned. The event is free and open to everyone.
