Develop competitive grant applications

Attention: Dental Branch junior faculty members wishing to develop competitive grant applications — register today for the New Investigator Development Program, offering the following courses:

Rena D’Souza, D.D.S., Ph.D., professor of orthodontics at the UT Dental Branch, said the program augments the campus-wide infrastructure for biomedical research at a time when the recruitment of outstanding faculty researchers is under way. “The two-course program will provide a useful roadmap for research faculty as they develop into independently funded investigators and future mentors,” D’Souza said.

Friday, Sept. 2 is the deadline to register online for this program, led by a Faculty Steering Team and conducted by the Office of Research. See http://research.uth.tmc.edu/nidp/ for an overview of the program, schedule of topics and speakers, and application guidelines for Grants 102.

Clean teeth, healthy gums … strong hearts

As oral health is increasingly linked to one’s overall health, including heart conditions, it is important that the Dental Branch continue to do its part with supporting the American Heart Association.

And the AHA Heart Walk has arrived again. Help the UT Health Science Center create a team of 500 walkers, raising $75,000 to benefit research for heart disease and stroke. Over the past 10 years the AHA has funded over $25 million in research at the UT Health Science Center at Houston.

Here’s how to get involved:
