Centennial Tribute Dinner

The UT Dental Branch family turned out in large numbers to support The University of Texas Dental Branch Alumni Association Centennial Tribute Dinner, Saturday, Aug. 13. Steve Schwartz, D.D.S., as master of ceremony, delighted the guests with his intelligent sense of humor and reminiscing comments. Other guest speakers included Jerry Long, D.D.S, president of the UTDB Alumni Association, Richard Black, D.D.S., president of the Texas Dental Association, Catherine Flaitz, D.D.S., dean of the Dental Branch, James T. Willerson, M.D., president of the UT Health Science Center at Houston and Leslie Fullerton, D.D.S., secretary/treasurer of the UTDB Alumni Association. The invocation was given by Ron Collins, D.D.S., president of the UTDB Parent’s Association. Famed heart surgeon Denton Cooley, M.D. served as the keynote speaker. With great food, music and friends, an outstanding time was had by all.

TB testing for all Dental Branch faculty/staff

UT Health Science Center and Dental Branch policy requires annual T.B. testing for faculty and staff. Testing will be conducted at the Dental Branch:

10 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug, 23, Room B.25.
Interpretation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25.

If you have an x-ray on file at Employee Health, you will not need to be tested. However, you will need to stop by at the time of the testing and verify that you have an x-ray on file.

DB van serves community

The UT Dental Branch van participated in a back-to-school health fair sponsored by Telemundo on Saturday, Aug. 13 — one of the largest such fairs in the state of Texas. Under the direction of Tracey Godwin, D.D.S., assistant professor in restorative dentistry, the dental van provided screenings and fluoride varnish to over 200 children.

Godwin reports that there were over 15 volunteers from the Dental Branch, including staff, faculty, dental students and several dental hygiene students. Many thanks goes to those who worked hard during this event.

Davis promoted to Orthodontics position

The Department of Orthodontics and its chairman, Jeryl English, D.D.S., will welcome aboard new executive assistant, Janice C. Davis, starting Sept. 1. Janice has been with the university for 13 years, eight of those years with the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials, from which she was promoted. Congratulations, Janice!
