Attention DB: Please help those in crisis

The UT Health Science Center has a history of responding to need caused by emergencies, such as the one brought on Monday by Hurricane Katrina. The university’s UT Helps organization (a part of UT Volunteers) is prepared to provide immediate assistance — with your help. We are calling our effort the People and Pets Food Drive.

Thursday, Sept. 1, volunteer coordinators at the Dental Branch will collect:

• food items for the Houston Food Bank, specifically for hurricane victims, and
• dry pet food for the more than 300 displaced animals brought to the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from Louisiana animal shelters.

Thursday, items can be dropped off at the Instructional Media Office, DB 161A. You also may contact Instructional Media at (713) 500-4158, -4157 or -4156 for more information.

Items needed by area agencies can be found at http://www.uthouston.edu/uthelps. To give monetary donations to various relief agencies, including the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, visit http://www.uthouston.edu/uthelps/donate.htm. Cash donations are especially helpful to those displaced by the storm.

Yes! The ice cream social for the Dental Branch is just one week away. The Workplace of Choice Initiative and the Dental Branch Employee Relations Committee understand that a Workplace of Choice is created by knowing with whom you work.
