Texas Medical
Center to honor former Dental Branch dean with street
The Texas Medical Center will honor former Dental Branch dean and TMC founder, Frederick C. Elliott, D.D.S., with a street bearing his name. The ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 14, in the Dental Branch lobby, with guests walking to the nearby street sign and returning to the school for a reception. Please join the celebration.
Elliott served as dean from 1932-52 and was instrumental in breathing life into the young and struggling dental school. He helped generate funding for the construction of our current building, which at the time it opened was a state-of-the-art facility. In addition to his efforts in dentistry, Elliott was the lead visionary and one of the founders of the Texas Medical Center.
Hygienists take on tobacco in October
Sponsored annually by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), October is National Dental Hygiene Month. Each year ADHA chooses a dental hygiene-related topic to focus on. The 2005 topic is Tobacco and Heart Disease.
ADHA encourages all dental hygienists and dental hygiene students across the nation to get involved in the 2005 effort to increase public awareness of these tobacco-related risk factors, and how dental hygienists save lives by recognizing symptoms of life-threatening diseases before they become serious.
For more information or to get involved contact the School of Dental Hygiene at (713) 500-4086 or visit the ADHA Web site at: http://www.adha.org/
Wanted: 100
walkers for 100 years of dentistry
Be one of 100 walkers to represent the UT Dental Branch and the UT Health Science Center during this year’s Heart Walk. Let’s show Houston that oral health is an important part of overall health, by representing dentistry in a big way. During our Centennial we not only want to celebrate our past contributions to health care, but also demonstrate the Dental Branch’s commitment to future health.
Join the team of Dental Branch walkers for breakfast, exercise, fellowship and lots of fun at 8 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sam Houston Park.
