Leslie Roeder, D.D.S. associate dean for academic affairs and associate professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, has been named a fellow in one of the nation’s premiere leadership development programs in health professions education.

The Leadership Institute of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), selects promising faculty members at academic dental institutions and guides them through intensive development in leadership and organization theory, higher education management, team and network building, and other aspects of personal and professional growth.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Roeder to the 2006-07 class of ADEA’s Leadership Institute,” said Kenneth Kalkwarf, D.D.S., current ADEA president and dean of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. “Faculty members at our academic dental institutions are a precious resource, and these fellows are among the nation’s most promising dental educators. With the Institute, they will gain the tools to grow as academic leaders and take their careers to a new level, at the same time they are positioning themselves to make significant contributions to our profession.”

Over the course of the year, fellows conduct interviews and participate in activities at their home institutions, where they are mentored by their deans and other academic leaders. Congratulations to Dr. Roeder.

Honor a Dental Branch mentor

Are you a woman? Has someone at the Dental Branch given you advice to help define or reach your goals, shared with you "how the system works," or taken the time to introduce you to the “right” people? That’s a mentor!

Consider nominating your mentor, by Monday, July 24, for the President’s Award for Mentoring Women. Three mentors will receive this award, along with $2,000. A mentor will be chosen from each category: faculty, administrative and professional staff, and classified staff.

For details on the qualifications and nomination process, visit http://www.uth.tmc.edu/csw/index.htm.
