The UT Dentists clinic on the first floor of the Dental Branch is set to open late this summer. General dentistry, esthetic dentistry and a variety of other specialties will be available. Services will be provided by faculty members of the Dental Branch and will operate similar to a private practice dental office.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The clinic will accept the Delta Premier insurance plan; however, no HMOs will be accepted. Consider this during the current annual enrollment period, which ends Monday, July 31.

A full story about the clinic’s opening will be featured in the August 15 issue of The Leader. Methods of payment and phone numbers will follow in future communication. Questions? Contact: Mishie.A.Nesbitt@uth.tmc.edu.

Thank you for food drive contributions

Together, the UT Health Science Center helped to place 2,600 pounds of non-perishable food items in the Houston Food Bank, along with $2,532 in cash, checks and online donations.

The Dental Branch Employee Relations Committee End of the Year party yielded 40 pounds of food and $110.

These food items and funds will go to feed some of Houston's hungriest families.  Congratulations to the food drive coordinators for another successful drive.

16-year veteran of the Dental Branch to leave

Stephen Maxwell, dental technician III in Education Facilities and Support Services, who has served the Dental Branch for 16 years, will be leaving his position on Friday, Aug. 4. Maxwell and his wife, Lorna, are relocating to Kileen, Texas where she will take on a new job in the Kileen Independent School District.

Maxwell said he will miss the people he works with most. Below is an excerpt of a letter he wrote to Dean Catherine M. Flaitz, D.D.S., about his departure.

“Before I leave I want to thank everyone at the Dental Branch in all that they do. This is a school that truly cares for not only its students but also its employees. I especially want to thank Dr. John Valenza, Jon Coy, Jonathan Green, and Don McCracken. As you can see, all these people have one thing in common. All have a caring attitude that makes this school great. Again, I want to thank all of you for making my last sixteen years so memorable.”

Maxwell also extends appreciation to Dean Flaitz, Dr. Rodney Beetar, professor of Prosthodontics, and numerous staff and students he worked with over the years.
