Dental Branch involved in Back to School health education

Second-year dental hygiene student, Jamie Trinh, shows students how to brush their teeth properly.

Oral health and hygiene was the message of the day for a group of children who attended the St. Martin’s Episcopal Church Back to School Health Fair last week.

A representation of faculty, staff and students of the Dental Branch, in conjunction with Texas Children's Hospital, St. Lukes Episcopal Health Charities, Epiphany Community Health Outreach Services and others, participated.

The Dental Branch team conducted screenings and applied fluoride varnish for more than 200 people. One-on-one oral hygiene instruction and oral health kits were provided to all.

Dental Branch participants were Tracey Godwin, D.D.S., director of the mobile dental van, dental assistants Maria Martinez and Pat Henshaw, dental hygiene students Kristye Bowden and Jamie Trinh, dental students Valerie Santiago Doyle and Gelatia Tesfaye, along with Connie Godwin and Mirna Martinez, friends of the Dental Branch.
