Dr. Lisa Thomas
said she enjoys her co-workers and the opportunity
to work with students.

Lisa Thomas, D.D.S.,
associate professor in Diagnostic Sciences, considers
herself “part of the Dental Branch family.”
She has a long and storied history
with the school and she wouldn’t have it
any other way.
After obtaining a degree in Dental
Hygiene, Thomas’ connection to the Dental
Branch started in 1981 when she came to work in
Radiology.
“After a few years I decided
I wanted a challenge,” Thomas said. “And
dental school was definitely a challenge.” Thomas
graduated in 1989 and joined the faculty in 1990.
She has never looked back.
“The people I work with and
the opportunity to work with students is what has
kept me here. I like having the chance to share
with my students the way my professors shared their
knowledge with me.” |

|
|
Today, Thomas is a clinical teacher
and a practice leader. She also serves in a variety
of administrative leadership positions and on several
advisory councils, such as the UT Health Science
Center Administrative Council and the Interfaculty
Council.
Thomas has served as the president of
the Faculty Senate at the Dental Branch since December
2005.
Thomas’s husband, Larry, is a full-time
poet and writer. He is on the short-list to be named
the Texas State Poet Laureate. If he wins he will be
honored with a recognition ceremony in the Lt. Governor’s
office of the State Capitol in January.
In her free time Thomas enjoys working with stained
glass, gardening, and photography. She enjoys photography
so much that she has shot the cover of each one of
her husband’s books.
Thomas has a 36-year-old step-daughter. Together,
the couple has two dogs, Beefy and Bonnie.

the focus is on coming together to share the simple joys
in life -- family, friends, nourishment and relaxation. We

Daily, we have the opportunity to impact the dental education,
research and patient care that takes place in our community.
