Dr. Ngo visits from Australia

From left to right: Jason Burgess, district manager of GC America Inc.; Catherine M. Flaitz, D.D.S., dean of the UT Dental Branch at Houston; Hien Ngo, B.D.S., from the University of Adelaide Australia; and Richard Bebermeyer, D.D.S.,  in the department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials, a department which is seeking the latest science and expertise to teach and practice caries diagnosis and management.

Hien Ngo, B.D.S., researcher and pioneer in dental products from Australia, visited The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, Friday, March 16, to conduct a continuing education course on “Minimal Intervention: A New Course to Clinical Dentistry.” The course was sponsored by GC America Inc., which produces operatory products and glass ionomers.

Ngo’s course focused on the cause and progress of caries, and the ways that managing caries as a disease needs to be evaluated. One of the new ways of looking at caries treatment is Minimal Intervention Dentistry, which seeks to prevent and detect oral disease at the earliest stages to avoid invasive treatment. Ngo talked in detail about this practice. Ngo is a renowned researcher in the management of caries and the interactions between glass-ionomers and the dental tissues.
