The Dental Branch thanks our nurses

In honor of National Nurses Week, many thanks goes to the nurses at the UT Dental Branch: Mary Ann Adkisson, director of Clinical Services; Janie Fitzgerald, staff nurse III in the department of Oral Surgery and Kelly Jansky, staff nurse III in the clinical dispensary and central sterilization areas. The Dental Branch appreciates all you do.


Orthodontics faculty member receives high honors and research awards

Chung H. Kau, B.D.S. M.Sc.D. Ph.D., associate professor in Orthodontics, was made an honorary life member/fellow of the Hungarian Orthodontic Society. He is the first person from an American institution and is one of three people internationally who have received this distinction.

In addition, Kau in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana and Cardiff University has been awarded a European Orthodontic Society Grant of $28,500 to study the 3D facial effects after early treatment of cross-bites in Slovenia. Kau also has a number of collaborative projects on 3D facial imaging of hard and soft tissues Western and Central European countries which include Hungary, Slovenia, Finland and the United Kingdom.


Dental Branch faculty retreat - Mark your calendars

The Dental Branch faculty retreat will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday, June 7, at the United Way of Texas Gulf Coast, located at 50 Waugh Drive, Houston, TX 77007. More information will follow as the date nears.


Teaching and Learning Conference

You are invited to the 8th annual Advanced in Teaching and Learning Conference. The conference will ask the question: Are You Ready For The Students of the Future? Keynote speaker Gordon Freedman, Blackboard’s vice president for Education Strategy, will address the issue of Higher Education and 21st Century Realities.

Second year dental students win intramural baseball championship

Fight hunger

Coordinators are needed for the annual UT Health Science Center food drive benefiting the Houston Food Bank. The drive, which will take place June 13-27, is held in conjunction with KHOU-TV's "Spirit of Texas" Food Drive, the Texas Medical Center, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, and the Kroger Company.
