E-mail Etiquette 101:
HealthLeader Wants to Know
Your ‘E-peeves’

Now that technology has expanded to include Blackberries, text messaging, iPhones, etc., the need for e-mail etiquette may have expanded, too. In a future edition, the UTHSC online magazine HealthLeader plans to revisit the issue of e-mail etiquette – one of the magazine’s most requested stories. Editor Karen Krakower invites you to comment on e-communication, especially what irks you, irritates you, offends you or just makes you want to slam down your laptop. Send your comments, which will be kept anonymous, to Karen.O.Krakower@uth.tmc.edu. Topics to think about include:

  • E-mail: What three things irritate you most about the mail you receive? Do font, color or type size matter to you? What offends you? How do you feel about e-mail invitations? Thank-you notes? Offensive jokes?
  • Texting/Cell Phones: Has texting made your life easier or harder? What irritates you most about the text messages you receive? How and when should one use texting vs. the phone? What irritates you most about other people's cell phones? What do you find the most rude behavior of cell phones in general?
  • Blackberry Use: When is Blackberry use a breach in social etiquette? What aspects of the Blackberry have served you well?
  • Tech Etiquette Overall: Which electronic devices have made your life easier, and how? How have communication devices affected your relationships at work? If you’re a parent, how have these devices impacted your children or your parenting?

Yogurt Lid Campaign to Benefit
Breast Cancer Research

Chrystal Pierce, R.D.H., B.S., of UT Dentists thanks everyone who participated in Yoplait's “Save Lids to Save Lives” campaign. Pierce asked faculty, staff and students to drop their Yoplait yogurt lids into a special pink box that stood outside the UT Dentists office throughout the fall. A total of 885 lids were collected. For every lid donated, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
