Mexican dental educators from the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis, Universidad Latinoamericana and Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores (ENES) visited The University of Texas School of Dentistry (UTSD) at Houston in June to see the new school, with particular interest in the state-of-the-art clinical simulation clinic.

Associate Dean for Patient Care Robert Cederberg, DDS, and Community Outreach Director Margo Melchor, RDH, MEd, hosted the tour at the request of aDEC, the dental equipment manufacturer that supplied much of the equipment installed at UTSD.

Simulation Director Harold Henson, RDH, MEd, demonstrated features of the simulation clinic and explained how simulation and virtual patients enhance dental and dental hygiene students’ learning experiences by facilitating the transition to caring for live patients.

The guests from Universidad Autonoma de San Luis included Dr. Maria Del Socorro Ruiz Rodriguez, coordinator of postgraduate pediatrics; personal assistant Maria del Socorro Islas Ruiz; and Dean Francisco Magana Moheno. From ENES-Leon was Director Javier de la Fuenta Hernandez.

“They were very appreciative of us taking time out of our schedules to host them for the site visit,” Melchor said. "They seemed very impressed by our new building and how it enhances the educational experience for our students and residents.”
