Beaumont's new mayor pro tem is UTSD grad

Alan B. Coleman, DDS ’83, has been elected mayor pro tem of Beaumont.  Beaumont is the 24th largest city in Texas, with a population of 118,296, according to the 2010 Census. 

Coleman is serving his third term as the Ward 1 Councilmember. He has practiced general dentistry in Beaumont for 29 years.

In addition to his involvement with city governance, Coleman founded Southeast Texas Hands For God Ministry. This 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry has traveled within the United States and abroad to provide free dental care to those in need. The ministry was a 2012 recipient of an Academy of General Dentistry Foundation grant.

Coleman has served on numerous charitable boards. Last year, he and his wife were honored as the “Family of the Year” by Family Services of Southeast Texas, and he is a recipient of the Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service.
