Forty college students from Universidad de Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Mexico came to The University of Texas School of Dentistry in June to tour the school and learn more about the dental and dental hygiene professions.
For the second consecutive year, members of UTSD’s Hispanic Student Dental Association served as hosts and tour guides for the Mexican visitors at the request of Associate Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs Phil Pierpont, DDS. The HSDA students also provided facts about UTSD and the school’s mission and goals, as well as available programs.
“The visiting students seemed to enjoy the tour and were astonished by the level of technology our school has to offer,” Pierpont said.
UTSD Community Outreach Director Margo Melchor, RDH, MEd, who also serves as faculty sponsor for HSDA, said the organization was happy to help.
“HSDA hopes to continue the opportunity to showcase UTSD and our educational programs in the upcoming years to college students in Mexico,” she said.
