The Beta Eta Chapter of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston provided oral health screenings at the Raindrop Turkish House Health Fair in October.

In less than three hours, 15 UTSD students teamed up to evaluate the oral health of 40 patients, many of them young children. About 25 patients with high caries risk also received a fluoride varnish treatment.  All were given oral health instruction and referral information to the dental school and several community clinics.

Many of the patients were immigrants with significant language barriers challenging their access to dental care. Volunteers included dental students from all four classes at UTSD.

The Turkish House Health Fair is held in collaboration with U.S. Congressman Al Green and Community Health Choice. Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity’s faculty sponsors are Associate Professor June Sadowsky DDS, MPH and Clinical Assistant Professor Paul Levine, DDS.

Raindrop Foundation is a nonprofit, educational, charitable, social and cultural organization founded by Turkish-Americans in Houston in 2000 and now it operates in seven states: Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, New Mexico and Tennessee.
