ASDA Volunteers Screen Bhutanese Refugees

Fifteen members of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston participated in a multidisciplinary health fair Feb. 22 at The Alliance for Multicultural Community Services in Bellaire, where they performed dental screenings and taught oral hygiene instructions to 96 Bhutanese refugees of all ages who recently emigrated to the Houston area.
 
The students, working under direction of Assistant Professor Ana Neumann, DDS, PhD, included Brian Patterson, Adrien Lewis, Andrea Sauerwein, David Stonestreet, Diane Reyes, Hieu Pham, Min Cho, Matt Franzen, Jeema Dad, Clara Yoo, Kelsey Edmondson, Shivani Patel, Shamsha Ali and Veronica Cordon.

Students from Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston’s optometry and pharmacy schools also participated.
