UTSD students choose 2012 Teaching Award winners

Three members of the University of Texas School of Dentistry faculty have been honored with teaching awards that are especially meaningful because the winners were chosen by UTSD students. The winners for 2012 are:
-- John P. McGovern Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching: Professor Rodney F. Beetar, DDS, MS, of the Department of Prosthodontics, chosen by third- and fourth-year dental students.
-- John Freeman Award for Outstanding Non Clinical Teaching: Professor and Prosthodontics Department Chair Raymond G. Koeppen, DDS, MS, MBA, chosen by first- and second-year dental students.
-- Lorna Bruning Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching: Assistant Professor Joanna Allaire, RDH, BSDH, of the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene, chosen by dental hygiene students.

DH students volunteer for San Jose Clinic’s Sealant Day

Dental hygiene (DH) students of The University of Texas School of Dentistry participated in Sealant Day at San José Clinic, a Houston-area clinic serving the uninsured. In attendance were second-year DH students Jen Pham, Jeffrey Chen, Thao Nguyen and first-year students Amber Lovatos, Chand Singh, Daniel Badillo, Elizabeth Alvarado, Fouzia Mohammad, Kim Nguyen, Molly Eastman, Nancy Wachira, Thai Nguyen, Van Nguyen and Nickie Vu. The students worked with other volunteers, including two dentists, seven dental hygienists and San Jose Clinic staff, to provide 38 uninsured children with oral hygiene instructions, sealants and fluoride varnish applications worth an estimated $9,300. Two from UTSD appointed to Pediatric Dentistry editorial board

Associate Professor Jennifer Hill, DDS, DrMedDent, PhD, and Professor Catherine Flaitz, DDS, MS, have been appointed to three-year terms on the 31-member editorial board of Pediatric Dentistry, the official publication of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Previously, Hill was an ad hoc reviewer for the journal. Read more |
