Hundreds Get Free Dental Care at School of Dentistry’s Two-Day Event

Nearly 1,400 children and adults received free dental care Feb. 7-8 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry, thanks to the combined efforts of the school, the Greater Houston Dental Society (GHDS) and the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation

Continuing a 10-year tradition, the school and GHDS jointly hosted “Give Kids a Smile” – a day of free dental care for Houston-area children.  But this year, the partners expanded the event to treat nearly 400 children over two days while simultaneously hosting a TDA Smiles Foundation-sponsored “Texas Mission of Mercy” that delivered free dental care to nearly 1,000 adults.  Read more

 

March for Babies 2014: Calling All Team Captains!

The annual March of Dimes Houston March for Babies is set for April 27.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is seeking dedicated team captains for the 2014 Houston March for Babies – the No. 1 March of Dimes event in the nation. Help us break previous fundraising records by recruiting and motivating UTHealth employees and students to walk and raise money for the Sunday, April 27 event!

If you are interested in serving as a team captain to support UTHealth’s efforts by walking together for stronger, healthier babies, please contact Natasha Helm at Natasha.R.Helm@uth.tmc.edu by Tuesday, Feb. 18. Health Educators Fellowship Program Kicks Off with 22 Recruits

The 2014-15 Health Educators Fellowship Program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is again underway, with 22 faculty members from five UTHealth schools participating.  Those from the School of Dentistry include Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences Department Chair Kalu Ogbureke, BDS, DMSc, JD; Lincoln Edwards, DDS, PhD; Shelley Patel, DDS; Rebeca Weisleder, DDS; and Clark Whitmeyer, DMD, JD.

Over the course of the 18-month program, participants will apply current education theory to educational practices; identify and reflect on their personal educational and teaching philosophies; collaborate with fellow participants to identify common areas of interest; and develop a project reflecting sound educational theory and practice that will benefit their personal career paths.  Participants from other UTHealth schools include:  Read more
