The Clinical IT & Web Services group is part of the Office of Technology Services & Informatics. The group’s role is to implement, support, and maintain applications such as axiUm and MiPACS, both widely used by the School of Dentistry. Additionally, Clinical IT & Web Services provide custom solutions to faculty & Staff for website-related needs.
Our team is dedicated to providing effective support to faculty, staff and students in a timely manner for all Clinical IT & Web Service needs.
|axiUm (Electronic Health Record) – is the School of Dentistry’s comprehensive electronic health record system. It was designed exclusively for use in dental schools and its functions include patient registration, appointment scheduling, billing, student grading, reporting, and treatment planning.|
|MiPACS (Dental Imaging System) – is the School of Dentistry’s PACS system. It is used to acquire, store, and view digital dental images. It was built in accordance with DICOM 3.0 standard and is composed of two parts: MiPACS Storage Server and MiPACS Dental Enterprise Viewer.
MiPACS is also used to store medical images acquired through other systems. While the MiPACS Viewer can’t open them, the Storage Server is still able to store them. MiPACS is used with several acquisition and viewing applications such as Dolphin, OsiriX, Invivo, and Carestream.
|Dolphin (Image Management) – is designed for orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, pediatric dentistry, radiology, and more. Dolphin fully integrates with axiUm and MiPACS to provide Ceph Tracing, Treatment Simulation, Implant Planning, and 3D imaging used to visualize and analyze craniofacial anatomy.|
|Carestream (3D Imaging) – the School of Dentistry has three Carestream CBCT Systems. The CS 9500 is used in our department of Radiology and offers dual jaw (9 cm x 15 cm) or all dento-maxillofacial anatomy (18.4 cm x 20.6 cm) in one acquisition. The CS 9300 combines 3D technology with panoramic and cephalometric imaging and is located in the Department of Orthodontics. The CS 9000 which is located in the Department of Endodontics and offers a high resolution with a focused field of view.|
|OsiriX (Imaging Viewer) – is an imaging viewer designed for navigation and visualization of multimodality and multidimensional images: 2D Viewer, 3D Viewer, 4D Viewer and 5D Viewer. The 3D Viewer offers all modern rendering modes: Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR), Surface Rendering, Volume Rendering and Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP). All these modes support 4D data and are able to produce image fusion between two different series (PET-CT and SPECT-CT display support). OsiriX is currently utilized at the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery located at Smith Tower.|
|Emdeon (Electronic Claims Processing) – is used to process insurance claims uploaded from axiUm. Both medical and dental claims can be submitted and processed. Emdeon serves as a clearinghouse for over 1,200 government and commercial payers and offers powerful reporting and analytics through their Vision Suite website.|
|EasyMarkit (Patient Communications) – is an automated patient notification system that will send email, text, and voice messages to patients for appointment confirmations.|
|EHR Account Setup||Once the EHR Authorization form has been completed and all signatures acquired, a new user ID is created and setup for new faculty, staff, or students. This includes access to axiUm, MiPACS, and other integrated systems. In order for swipe approvals to be setup, the faculty member must visit our office with their badge.|
|EHR Badge Encoding||Faculty are able to use their UT Health badge to swipe in the EHR to login to axiUm, approve procedures, forms, treatment plans, and various other items in axiUm. Swipe cards can also be used to approve images in MiPACS. In order for swipe approvals to work, faculty must come by the TSI offices with their badge in order it to be encoded. This process generally takes 5-10 minutes.|
|Temporary Badges||A temporary swipe badge can be provided to faculty for use in axiUm and MiPACS. Temporary badges will not provide access to the building or parking lot.|
|Remote EHR Access||Remote access to axiUm and MiPACS is available through Citrix. Support is available for setup and troubleshooting remote access on laptops. Instructions for setting up remote access are available once you login to the school’s website.|
|Systems and Applications Support||All issues with clinical systems should be reported through HEAT Self Service or by calling the help desk at 713-486-4800 to create a ticket. New requests can be submitted by department chairs using the EHR Change Request. Additional information can be sent to the clinical IT support team at email@example.com|
|Web Changes||Changes to the web can be submitted through a HEAT ticket. Additional information or attachments can be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org in conjunction with the Heat ticket. Each department can designate a representative to manager their portion of the site. Contact our Web Group to request training and editorial access to the site.|
