Dr. Vance is a clinical assistant professor in the Pediatric Dentistry Department at the School of

Dentistry, The University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston.  He served as part-time faculty in the residency program, then became Residency Program Director and now has returned to part time faculty status.

 

With over 40 years in the dental profession, Dr. Vance has had extensive experience in both clinical dentistry and dental education.  For 26 of those years, Dr. Vance has specialized in Pediatric Dentistry.

 

Dr. Vance graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.  He had ten years experience as a general dentist before undertaking specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry  and then becoming Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Society of Dentistry for Children.  He is a member of The American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a member of local dental societies.

 

His dental career has included:

·         7 years of private practice in general dentistry,

·         a decorated military career in pediatric dentistry (retiring as a colonel in the U.S. Army Dental Corp after 20 years of service during which he practiced pediatric dentistry and was also assigned as teaching faculty in pediatric dentistry in several residency programs, holding the positions of Clinic Chief and Consultant in Pediatric Dentistry for the US Army Europe),

·         10 years of private practice in pediatric dentistry(during which he held the position of President of the South Dakota Society of Pediatric Dentists)

·         and the present part-time faculty status at the University of Texas Houston School of Dentistry Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry.
