Education Committee
Purpose as stated in the UTDB Bylaws
The purpose of this committee, which shall be charged by the Senate
and reports to the Senate, shall be to review each advanced education
program sponsored by the Dental Branch and make recommendations regarding
admissions, curriculum, hospital affiliations, graduate supervisory
committees and student thesis proposals. This committee shall evaluate
and make recommendations concerning progress, retention and awarding
of post graduate degrees to Dental Branch post graduate students.
All recommendations regarding candidates for admission, retention
or awarding of degrees shall be referred directly to the Dean for
action.
The Committee shall include the Department Chairs and Program Directors of those
departments involved in advanced dental education, and members of the faculty
experienced in clinical or basic science research.
Committee Charge
- Review and make appropriate recommendations concerning the curriculum
of the advanced education programs, to include periodic review
of courses, conferences and seminars. Review and make appropriate
recommendations concerning graduate clinic policies and procedures
- Review admission standards and evaluate applicants for admission
to the advanced education programs for the ensuing year with program
directors and transmit them to the Dean for final approval
- Review and evaluate student academic progress, recommend the
retention or dismissal of students and the awarding of advanced
degrees
- Review and approve candidates for the degree of Master of Science
- Review annually the Catalog of the Postgraduate School of Dentistry
- Review applicants for scholarship awards for postgraduate students
and the mechanism for awarding these scholarships
Committee Structure
- The Department Chairs and Program Directors will serve as members
of the Committee.
- The Ex Officio members are the Associate Dean
for Student and Alumni Affairs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs,
and Associate Dean for Research.
