Dr. Raymond Simmons, Associate Professor, GPR Program Director
Dr. Raymond Simmons is a graduate of the University of North Texas and Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., where he earned his DDS degree in 1993. He completed a General Practice Resident Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston MA in 1994 and in 1999 completed an Oral Medicine Program and a Doctoral Program in Oral Biology at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. In 2001, Dr. Simmons finished a 2-year NIH Post-doctoral Research Fellowship. He served as an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Sciences at the UTHSC-San Antonio from 2001-2003 and as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences/Clinical Medicine at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine from 2003-2007. Dr. Simmons was appointed GRP Program Director in 2007.
Michael
M. Chan, D.D.S.
Dr. Michael
Chan is a 1997 graduate from The University of Texas
Health Sciences Center Dental School in San Antonio,
Texas. He completed a two-year General Practice
Residency at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He works
full-time in private practice, and serves as a part-time
faculty for the GPR program since 1997. Dr. Chan
is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospital
Dentists and Diplomat of the American Board of Special
Care Dentistry. He is also a member of the American
Dental Association and American Association of Cosmetic
Dentists.
Sheila H.
Koh, D.D.S.
Dr. Koh is
a 1990 graduate of The University of Texas Dental
Branch at Houston and completed a 1-year General
Practice Residency in the school’s program
based at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She maintained
a private practice and taught part-time from 1990
to 1993, and became a full-time faculty while maintaining
a part-time private practice from 1993-1995. She
helped initiate the school’s AEGD program
and served as its Director from 1999-2003. She is
member of American Dental Association, Academy of
General Dentistry, American Dental Education Association,
and International Association for Dental Research
and is a fellow of Academy of General Dentistry,
International College of Dentists, and Delta Sigma
Delta.
John A.
Valenza, D.D.S.
Dr. Valenza
is a 1981 graduate of the Dental Branch and completed
a general practice residency at The University of
Tennessee Memorial Hospital in Tennessee. He practiced
full-time in Nashville, TN until 1987 when he joined
the faculty of the school to initiate the GPR program,
which he served as director until 1996. From 1996-04
Dr. Valenza served as Associate Dean for Patient
Care, and from 2002-04 was acting chair of the Department
of Diagnostic Sciences. He is currently Executive
Associate Dean of the Dental Branch. Dr. Valenza
is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry,
the American College of Dentists, and the International
College of Dentists.
Steven Vaughan,
D.D.S.
Dr. Steven
Vaughan received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology
from Rice University in 2000. He is a 2004 graduate
from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center
Dental School in San Antonio, Texas. He completed
a one-year Advanced General Dentistry Residency
at the VA Medical Center in San Antonio. He works
full time in private practice, and has served as
a part-time faculty for the GPR program since 2005.
Dr. Vaughan is a member of the Greater Houston Dental
Society and the American Dental Association.
