Service to State, Local, and National Organizations

• Dr. Scott R. Makins, Editorial Board for the Endodontics Section of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics, Editorial Advisory Board of the Texas Dental Journal, and Scientific Advisory Panel of the Journal of Endodontics.
• Dr. Rena D’Souza, professor of orthodontics served on the Scientific Board for the Eighth International Conference on Tooth Morphogenesis and Differentiation held at the University of York, UK on July 17-22, 2004. Dr. D’Souza acted as Chairperson of the Genetics Anomalies Session that included a presentation of her research on “How Transcription Factors Control the Patterning of Dentition through Protein-Protein Interactions”. She also presented a short talk on “Use of Autologous cell therapy for the treatment of gingival and periodontal regeneration”. Other presenters from the laboratory were Dr. Hitesh Kapadia who is currently training towards a certificate in the Specialty of Orthodontics and a PhD from the GSBS and Ms. Julia Javarone who is enrolled in Year 2 of the integrated DDS/PhD Program.
• UTHSC-H Dental School Selected for Cultural Competency Program
  The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in collaboration with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Foundation, has selected UTHSC-H Dental School to test new curricula designed to help train future dentists in cultural competency and ethnogeriatrics.
• Dr. Julia Javarone, President of the National Student Research Group.
• Dr. John Powers is involved in the Dental Materials Group and Group Chapter of International Association for Dental Research (DMG/DMGC Councilor, 1999-2005; Group Program Chairman, 2004). He also has been a Consultant, American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, 1996 to date. He also participates in multiple work groups.
• Dr. Bussa is currently serving the national orthodontic organization, American Association of Orthodontists, in the following two national positions: Southwestern Society of Orthodontists (SWSO) representative to the Council on Membership, Ethics, and Judicial Concerns (COMEJC) and a delegate to the House of Delegates (HOD).
• Dr. Arthur H. Jeske is currently serving State Organizations: Texas Dental Association: Member of Anesthesia Advisory Committee and Historian. National Organization: Chairman, American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, Member, Dentistry Expert Committee, United States Pharmacopeia (USP)
• Dr. Mark E. Wong is currently serving as Section Co-Chair: Examination Committee, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
• Dr. Sudarat Kiat-Amnuay is currently serving as a member to the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics (AAMP) and serves as a member to the Materials and Devices Committee and to the Research Committee.
• Dr. William T. Butler is currently serving as Founder and Organizer, International Conference on Osteopontin and Related Proteins, Converted to Gordon Research Conference entitled "Small Integrin Binding Proteins", Co-Organizers Larry Fisher and William T. Butler, to be held in Big Sky, Montana, October, 2005. He has also been the Past-President, International Conference on the Chemistry and Biology of Mineralized Tissues, to be held in Bannft, Canada, October, 2004.
