The service offers fixation, processing, decalcification, cutting, mounting and staining of both hard and soft tissues. Our laboratory has extensive experience in tooth and bone processing and staining. We will work with you to help in planning and executing your research project. You are encouraged to call to discuss your needs.
The fee for service schedule does not include labor
for Dental Branch researchers. We can accommodate small projects
quickly; larger and ongoing projects are on a first come, first served
basis. The equipment available in the facility include an automatic
processor, embedding center, vacuum ovens, mounting bath/hotplate,
microtome, and staining set up.

The Image Analysis facility is equipped with:
- Olympus BH Microscope with transmitted light, with objectives 1X through 40 X
- Artfix Scanner which can accept transparencies,strip film, small X rays, and microscope slides, scanning resolution - 72 to 4,000 ppi
- Sony Color CCD Cameras
- In Sight Camera
- Frame grabber compatible with all installed programs
- Software for Windows 2000: Image pro Plus v. 4.5, Optimas, Gel Pro Analyzer
- Photo quality ink jet printer

Biomaterials Research Center of UTHSC-Houston Dental Branch has
2,500 square feet of laboratory space and 700 square feet of office
and conference space.
The Oral Biomaterials Laboratory is equipped with:
